New York, New York (12/07/2016) – New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) President Carol A. Sigmond issued this statement today:
“The New York County Lawyers Association expresses sorrow on the passing of the Honorable Leonard B. Sand. Judge Sand was a proponent of justice and fairness as evidenced by, among other things, his landmark ruling in 1986 which structured a program to end patterns of racial discrimination in housing in the City of Yonkers. Judge Sand, known and respected for his unyielding focus on the rule of law through high profile and controversial cases, was an outstanding juror. Among the many accolades he received during his career, he was honored by the New York County Lawyers Association Federal Courts Committee with the 1993 Edward Weinfeld Award. This prestigious award is given in recognition for outstanding dedication to the law, in the memory of The Honorable Edward Weinfeld. We would like to also extend our most sincere condolences to his family on his passing.”
