Since its inception, NYCLA has been at the forefront of most legal debates in the country. We have provided legal education for more than 40 years.
The New York County Lawyers Association Officers, joined by the Association’s Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in the Law today issued this statement:
The New York County Lawyers Association recognizes Transgender Awareness Week (Monday November 13, 2023, to Sunday November 19, 2023). This week, we celebrate the strength, fortitude, and diversity of the transgender community. But we also honor the memory of transgender people who have lost their lives to anti-trans violence, and recognize those who are forced to live in the shadows of bigotry, hatred, and misunderstanding. At a time when lawmakers in at least 37 States have introduced at least 142 bills targeting transgender people, such as, for example, restricting gender affirming care, we recognize the great symbolism that this week holds. Transgender Awareness Week offers us an opportunity to amplify transgender voices and affirm our stand for trans rights. NYCLA is committed to a world where all transgender people can live authentically, free from discrimination and prejudice.
