NYCLA notes with sadness the recent death of Hon. Sondra Miller, at the age of 95.  Justice Miller was a path breaker for her entire life.  She graduated in the Class of 1953 from Harvard Law School, which was the first class to admit women.  She was a founding member of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association and devoted much of her professional life to matrimonial law and the rights of children.  As a judge on the Westchester Family Court, and then a justice on the Supreme Court and the Appellate Division, Second Department, she authored leading decisions on domestic violence, the interests of children and equitable distribution.  She was appointed by Chief Judge Judith Kaye to chair a special commission on reform of New York’s marital laws, and her knowledge in the field was encyclopedic.  She was respected and admired by all who practiced with and before her.  New York has lost a giant of the bench.
