Is it professionally proper for an attorney to insert an advertisement in any of the forms noted below in any of the following publications in the City of New York: an English language newspaper; a foreign language newspaper; a trade journal; a souvenir journal? The form of the proposed advertisement is as follows:

Answer. In the opinion of the Committee, publication of the proposed advertisements would be improper in any of the publications referred to in the question. Canon 27 of the Canons of Professional Ethics of the American Bar Association, as amended on September 30, 1937, provides that the customary use of simple professional cards is permissible, but limits the publication of such cards to approved law lists and legal directories.
