ETHICS OPINION 268
NUMBER 268 1929
Question. In the opinion of the Committee, would it be proper for attorneys to write to other attorneys, especially those for large insurance companies. letters suggesting that they retain them as counsel in those cases which they cannot properly handle, due to the pressure of business, or other reasons?
Answer. In the opinion of the Committee such solicitation is a violation of the principle stated in Canon 27 of the American Bar Association, in which this Committee concurs: ‘’Solicitation of business by circulars or advertisements, or by personal communication or interviews, not warranted by personal relations, is unprofessional.” (See Opinions 46, 150 a and d, 227.)
