Re: Request for Comments on New York State Courts Electronic Filing Program (NYSCEF)
The Office of Court Administration has requested comment with respect to the proposed amendment to CPLR Article 21A and other relevant statutes to authorize the Chief Administrative Judge to make e-filing mandatory across the state. The Supreme Court Committee of the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) commends the OCA for proffering this amendment and supports the proposal. As New York County was one of the first counties in the state to have electronic filing, NYCLA members have extensive experience with the system. Even though there was initial skepticism when the program was first introduced – our committee’s members quickly came to recognize the value and efficiency of electronic filing. Accordingly, the Supreme Court Committee of NYCLA wholeheartedly supports the proposal to authorize the Chief Administrative Judge to make e-filing mandatory across the State.
