ABOUT THE PANELISTS:
Judge Robert S, Smith (Ret.) is senior counsel at the law firm of Friedman Kaplan Seiler Adelman & Robbins LLP. Before joining Friedman Kaplan in 2015, he was for eleven years a Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court. Previously, he practiced for many years as a litigation partner at Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison LLP.
Greg Markel is chairman of the New York Litigation Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP with extensive experience trying cases involving derivative and securities litigation, corporate governance, governance litigation and antitrust litigation. He has for years been highly ranked by Chambers for Securities Litigation, He is recognized by Best Lawyers, Benchmark Litigation, Legal 500 and Super Lawyers. LawDragan inducted Mr. Markel into its Hall of Fame as a “legend.”
Robert Haig is a Partner at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP whose practice focuses on commercial and other types of litigation in federal and NYS courts. He has been described in published articles as “one of the foremost commercial litigators,” “a noted expert, author and lecturer in the area of Commercial Litigation,” and “one of the true greats of our profession.”
Gerard Mantese, Chair of the Corporation Law Committee of NYCLA and CEO & Sr. Principal, Business Law, of Mantese Honigman. Mr. Mantese argued the only two oppression cases ever accepted for review by the Michigan Supreme Court. Mantese also handled a precedent setting case supporting access to applied behavioral therapy for children with autism spectrum disorder, leading to his receipt of the Champion of Justice Award in 2010 by the State Bar of Michigan.
