COURSE DETAILS

This training will be for people interested in volunteering for the Part 137 Fee Dispute programs in the following parts of NYS: 9th judicial district (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange); 10th judicial district (Nassau, Suffolk).

 

The training will consist of lectures, discussions as well as MANDATORY ROLE PLAY EXERCISES, where attendees’ cameras and sound MUST be turned on.

 

Join us for a full day training session to learn what you need to know to become a Part 137 Fee Dispute Arbitrator.

 

Topics include:

 

  • General Overview of the Part 137 Program
  • Reasonableness of the Attorney Fee
  • What do You Actually do as a Part 137 Arbitrator?
  • Award Drafting and Other Post Hearing Responsibilities
  • Ethical Issues
  • Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Boas in the Conduct of Proceedings, Evidentiary Analysis and Decision Making
  • Role Play Exercises and Critiques
  • Debriefing; Questions and Answers

 

 

PLEASE NOTE: attorneys and non-attorneys with experience may apply for the program, BUT attorney applicants must be admitted to the New York Bar for at least 5 years.

 

If you intend to apply to volunteer for a local program, once your registration is confirmed, you must submit your resume or bio to feedispute@nycourts.gov.

 

The Board of Governors must approve all neutrals to arbitrate for the program. Attending this program is not a guarantee that you will be accepted to volunteer for the program.

 

When considering which program you would like to volunteer for, check the local program‘s rules to determine whether you meet the local program requirements.
