An Introduction to the New Retirement Distribution Rules

Recorded On 08/28/2024

COURSE DETAILS

On July 18, 2024 the IRS issued 260 pages of Final Regulations and 36 pages of Proposed Regulations that apply to distributions from Retirement Accounts as of 2025 and thereafter.

PLEASE NOTE: We anticipate this to be the first CLE/CPE program of a series of programs involving the new rules.

Introduction to the Program: Tatiana Williams, Internal Revenue Service, Communications & Liaison (C&L), Stakeholder Liaison, Area 2

Topics to be discussed include:

  • The changes that cover the new required beginning date for starting distributions from your retirement accounts
  • What rules apply if you pass away prior to your required beginning date
  • What rules apply if you pass away on or after your required beginning date
  • What rules apply if your beneficiary is a designated beneficiary
  • What rules apply if your beneficiary is an eligible designated beneficiary
  • What rules apply if you have no designated beneficiary or eligible designated beneficiary of your retirement account
  • What rules apply if you have multiple adult designated beneficiaries of your IRA account
  • What rules apply if you have a Roth IRA account
  • Common mistakes made involving retirement accounts
  • And much more!

Whether you are a general practitioner or not, you must become aware of these many rules. Not knowing these rules may result in substantial IRS sanctions of twenty-five percent (25%) of the amount involved in the error.

There will also be a discussion of retroactive issues.

The course material will include an electronic outline written by Mr. Goldberg.
