President Donald Trump has declared the mass deportations of immigrants, forgoing due process protections. This has energized NYCLA and partnering Bar Associations to respond by offering this half-day CLE training.
The Rule of Law has been vital to our democracy. The threat of widespread and indiscriminate immigration enforcement has already instilled fear among many New Yorkers, Moreover, lawyers have a duty “to challenge the rectitude of official action” and “uphold legal process.” Model Rule of Professional Conduct, Preamble [5].
The training will offer an overview for attorneys with no immigration background who seek to understand how everything “works” and who aim to be supportive in defending vulnerable communities.
