Understand how the Taxpayer Advocate can assist you and your clients in dealing with the IRS to help resolve issues., such as financial hardship, IRS system issues and fair and equitable treatment. Hear first hand from Betsy Bailey, NY Local Taxpayer Advocate, and Seymour Goldberg, a prominent tax practitioner, explain the real world situations where the office can be of most assistance.

 

In addition, the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, proposed by the former National Taxpayer Advocate, delineates the fundamental rights of taxpayers and outlines areas where the advocate can be of assistance, including:

 

  • The right to be informed
  • The right to quality service
  • The right to pay no more than the correct amount of tax
  • The right to challenge the IRS’ position and be heard
  • The right to appeal an IRS decision in an independent forum
  • The right to finality
  • The right to privacy
  • The right to confidentiality
  • The right to obtain representation
  • The right to a fair and just tax system
