Join NYCLA’s Law and Literature Committee as it welcomes author Rafi Kohan to discuss the history of trash talk and the impact that it has on one’s rivals — whether on the playing field, in the courtroom or the court of public opinion.
After discussing his work, we will have a panel discussion of how trash talk has recently been impacting the legal profession, which has a history of civility and a code of professional conduct. Have the recent comments and conduct by Donald Trump introduced trash talk to litigation? Can such conduct be curtailed? Do litigators, judges and court personnel have the tools to fight back? And what is the future impact on the practice of law and client behavior?

About the Author: Rafi Kohan is an Atlanta-based writer, editor and creative leader. Formerly he served as deputy editor at the New York Observer and has written for GQ, Men’s Journal, Wall Street Journal, Town and Country, Slate, Rolling Stone, The Ringer, ESPN, Vice, Los Angeles Times, the New York Times and the Washington Post. Most recently he worked at The Atlantic as the executive editorial director for Rethink, the magazine’s award-winning creative studio.
