New York County Lawyers Association Issues Statement on Appointment of Hon. Joseph Zayas as Chief Administrative Judge

The New York County Lawyers Association issued the following statement about Chief Judge Rowan Wilson’s selection of Joseph Zayas, associate justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department, as chief administrative judge:

NYCLA applauds Judge Joseph Zayas’ appointment to be New York’s next chief administrative judge. He is not only the first Latino judge to serve in that capacity in this state, but has already been a fixture at many bar association events, always bringing a great sense of humor to those events. He has a strong commitment to diversity and the rule of law, guiding principles which will serve him well in his role as chief administrative judge. He also brings enormous experience as an administrative judge in Supreme Court in Queens County, a Criminal Court judge, and a Court of Claims judge. We wish Judge Zayas well in serving our state as its chief administrative judge.
