NYCLA PRESENTS PUBLIC FORUM: THE TRAFFICKING OF WOMEN
– CURRENT U.S. EFFORTS – ON NOVEMBER 14
NOVEMBER 1, 2007- NEW YORK, NY – The Trafficking of Women: Current U.S. Efforts, will be the topic of a free public forum to be held at the New York County Lawyers’ Association (NYCLA) on Wednesday, November 14 at 5:30 PM at the NYCLA Home of Law – 14 Vesey Street. The speaker will be Ambassador Mark Lagon, Director of the U.S. State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, who coordinates U.S. government activities in the global fight against modern-day slavery, including forced labor and sexual exploitation.
NYCLA’s Women’s Rights and Foreign & International Law Committees, in conjunction with the National Committee for United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Metro New York Chapter, are sponsoring the event, which will address issues arising from the trafficking of women, as well as issues of trafficking in the United States and the impact of U.S. policies on other countries’ practices.
The New York County Lawyers’ Association (www.nycla.org) was founded in April 1908 as the first major bar association in the country that admitted members without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual identity. Since its inception, it has pioneered some of the most far-reaching and tangible reforms in American jurisprudence and has continuously played an active role in legal developments and public policy.
