ETHICS OPINION 515-1963 ADVERTISING

QUESTION.
I am associated in the practice of law with a foreign attorney who resides and has his office in a foreign country. I have an office for the regular practice of law in New York City.
The bar association and local customs of that foreign country permit attorneys to advertise in the local newspaper which is not circulated in the United States.
My question therefore is may that associate advertise my name together with his, stating that (1) we are associated and (2) that I am a member of the New York Bar in. that foreign country?
ANSWER.
The proposed advertisement is disapproved. It is in violation of Canon 27 of the Canons of Professional Ethics prohibiting advertisements so1icitating professional employment. A New York attorney may not advertise in a local or foreign newspaper and the estab1ishment of an association with a foreign attorney will not cure the impropriety of such advertising.
