FEATURED INTERNET SITE
StateSurge: How Do You Keep Up? (www.statesurge.com) was created in 2006 by Missouri software engineer Gary Stendebach and web designer Lucasz Tomicki. The purpose of the free site is to track and organize current legislation from 50 states and the federal government and provide a forum for comment. Legislation is tagged with several simple topics that may be found on other states' pages, enabling easy multistate searches for legal issues. If you click on the name of a state on the right side of the homepage and select "View All," you can see its subject list. Another option is to use the search box to retrieve legislation. You can view bills by relative importance or by current action. When you see the symbol of an American flag, that means the bill became a law. The sponsor's name and a brief summary of each bill are accompanied by user comments. You can see a short biography of the sponsor and other sponsored legislation, find the text of a bill if it is available, see its status and find related news stories that are archived and tagged by subject. Registration allows the user to obtain customized newsletters on legislative developments.
