Course Description:

Abusive partners are increasingly using technology to establish power and control. From GPS tracking devices to spyware, and Facebook tampering to harassing text messages, technological abuse is present in many cases of intimate partner violence. This program will introduce participants to how abusive parties use telephones, surveillance technology, and computer & internet technology to track, surveil and harass. By gaining a greater understanding of the technologies used by abusive parties, participants will be better prepared to:

  • Help clients protect themselves from technological abuse,
  • Gather and document evidence of abusive behavior, and
  • Get evidence of technological abuse admitted into court.

 

Ian Harris is a Staff Attorney at Day One, where he provides legal advice, information, and direct representation to survivors of dating abuse and domestic violence. In addition to providing legal assistance, he also conducts trainings for adults and professionals about legal protections for survivors of relationship violence.
